Artificial intelligence and democracy:
understand, reflect, participate.

Whether scrolling through social media or searching for information, AI shapes how we perceive the world. This development affects us all. When algorithms influence digital discourse, it changes our public debates, our trust in information and our ability to make independent decisions.

Our course provides an understanding of artificial intelligence and democracy and reveals how closely they are connected. It encourages taking responsibility for a technological progress that serves rather than threatens the foundations of a free and open society.

Raising awareness

Awareness is the first step towards responsibility. When we understand how AI works, we begin to see more clearly, think more critically, and act with intention instead of being unconsciously influenced.

Understanding opportunities and risks

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool. By recognising when it supports us and when it subtly steers us, we can take responsibility and safeguard true participation.

Acting responsibly

Responsibility begins with small actions: with a reflective approach to technology. This is how we protect what makes our democracy strong: trust, transparency and active engagement.

Developed with experts
who live responsibility.

Our course “AI Literacy: Democracy and Social Media” was developed in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Cordula Meckenstock and Paula Cipierre. Together, they combine legal excellence, ethical perspective and practical experience. The result is a learning experience that goes beyond knowledge transfer. It inspires awareness, reflection, and responsibility. You will discover how artificial intelligence shapes our society and how each of us can play a role in ensuring it serves democracy rather than undermining it.

FAQs about the course
AI Literacy Democracy and Social Media

What is the goal of the course AI Literacy: Democracy and Social Media?

The course raises awareness of the influence of artificial intelligence on information flows, opinion formation and social media. It teaches how to understand, critically question and use AI systems responsibly in order to promote a strong and informed democracy.

Who is the course for?

The course AI Literacy: Democracy and Social Media is designed for anyone who wants to understand how artificial intelligence and democracy interact and how they can contribute to the responsible use of this technology. No prior knowledge is required. The e-learning course is free of charge and available to all individuals, educational institutions, companies and organisations that want to promote digital responsibility and social awareness.

How long does the course take?

The course takes 15–20 minutes and is available online. It is accessible at any time and offers a clear and easy-to-understand introduction to the topic of artificial intelligence and democracy.

Why is knowledge about artificial intelligence important for a vibrant democracy?

Democracy thrives on informed decisions, diversity of opinion and trust. When AI influences what we see, read or believe, it changes the basis of democratic processes. Knowledge about AI is therefore not a technical issue, but a democratic responsibility. It protects against manipulation and strengthens our ability to think critically and freely.

Why is artificial intelligence and democracy a topic for everyone?

Artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in democracy because it influences which information is visible, which topics are discussed and, therefore, how opinions are formed. However, this influence of AI in our daily lives often goes unnoticed. Those who understand these mechanisms can better assess digital influences, recognise disinformation and actively contribute to a fair and transparent society.

Who developed the course?

The course was developed in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Cordula Meckenstock and Paula Cipierre. Both are renowned experts in law, ethics, data protection and artificial intelligence. Their experience in academia, practice and international consulting has directly shaped the content of our e-learning course.
